Brian Bloch has undergraduate and post graduate degrees in economics and business administration from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. His masters dissertation was on the subject of organisational conflict in the South African context, and his doctorate dealt with interdepartmental conflict in manufacturing companies.

Brian commenced his career teaching economics in South Africa at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he remained until 1988. He then moved to New Zealand, where he taught international business at the University of Auckland until 1998.

Brian had worked steadily at his German language skills since his South African days, and his interest in the country and in Europe led him to move there in 1999.  He is now based at the University of Münster, in a small city not far from Cologne and the Ruhr area.

Brian now specialises in English for Academic Research, giving courses in this area at Münster University and elsewhere in Germany and beyond.  His main work activity is academic editing in business, economics and other fields, such as communication and psychology. He also works as a freelance journalist.
